Jal Jeera Recipe

Jal Jeera Recipe Ingredients:

  • Boondi – 1 tbsp.
  • Cumin Seeds – ¾ tbsp.
  • Fennel Seeds – ¼ tsp.
  • Seedless Tamarind – 1 tbsp.
  • Coriander Leaves – ½ cup
  • Mint Leaves –1/3 cup
  • Lime Juice – 1 tbsp.
  • Asafetida – 1 stick – ¼ tsp.
  • Mango Powder – ½ tsp.
  • Cardamom Powder – 1 tsp.
  • Chaat Masala Powder – 1 tsp.
  • Black Pepper Powder – 1 tsp.
  • Ginger – 1 tsp.
  • Cloves – 2 cloves
  • Warm Water – 1 cup
  • Cold Water – 4 cups
  • Rock Salt – ¼ tsp.
  • Sugar – 3 tbsp.
  • Salt – as per taste

Note: Boondi is optional and can be made at home or bought from the store. You may skip any ingredient which is not available.

There are two types of Boondi one is sweet and another one is salty. The first one can be used to make sweets like Boondi Ladoo whereas the other one is fried and made crispy which later is used for sprinkling over all type of tasty Chaat.

Jal Jeera Recipe Steps:

Pre-Preparation:

  • Wash the mint leaves under the fresh tap water thoroughly. In the bowl of lukewarm water, soak the leaves for some time. Drain the water, discard the dirt. Dry the leaves and chop.
  • Clean the coriander leaves with fresh water and chop.
  • Rinse with the chilled water, the small tamarind balls. Soak them in water for few minutes. Drain the excess water.
  • Sugar Water: Dissolve sugar in water and keep the bowl aside.
  • Dry roast cloves, cardamom, fennel seeds and cumin seeds individually.
  • Make the paste of ginger, coriander leaves and mint leaves with water. Strain the smooth juice.

Note: Do not burn the cumin seeds while you roast them.

Preparation:

  • In a blender, add the tamarind balls and the rinsed mint leaves.
  • Now add all the seeds you have, like cumin seeds and fennel seeds.
  • Mix the spice powders like mango powder and black pepper powder in the blender.
  • Now, put the cardamom and asafetida in the blender.
  • At this time, add the strained juice of the ginger, mint and coriander leaves with some sugar water.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of salt and rock salt.
  • Pour some chilled water and blend all the ingredients.
  • Let the ingredients form a smooth mixture.
  • Now, line up a strainer through the outline of a bowl and transfer the mixture from blender to bowl with this strainer.
  • Squeeze the lime juice and mix well with the spoon.
  • Again add chilled water to this bowl and stir well.
  • Keep the bowl in the fridge for some time or add ice cubes.
  • Now, when the mixture is chilled, take the bowl from the fridge.
  • Serve the Jal Jeera in the glass.
  • Add the grounded cumin powder and mix well.
  • Season the mixture with Boondi and a pinch of Chaat masala.

Note: To reduce the tangy flavor, add water and to increase the tangy flavor add lime juice or ¼ tsp. lemon squash.
