Ingredients for Mint Raita Recipe:

  • Fresh Curd/ Day/ Yogurt – 1 cup
  • Fresh Mint Leaves/ Pudina Leaves – ½ cup
  • Water – 2 to 3 tsp.
  • Red Chili Powder – ¼ tsp.
  • Roasted Cumin Seeds Powder/ Bhuna Jeera Powder – ½ tsp.
  • Chaat Masala – ½ tsp. (optional)
  • Salt – as required

Note: You can also use the grinded mint leaves rather than the fresh mint leaves.

Method for Mint Raita Recipe:

Pre- Preparation:

  • Whisk Curd: Take the cup of fresh curd in a deep mixing bowl. With the help of electric whisker, whisk the curd until smooth. Cover the bowl of curd and keep it in the fridge to chill.
  • Mint Paste: Transfer the ½ cup of mint leaves to the colander. Rinse the mint leaves under running water. The reason too put them in a strainer or colander is because the excess water would be removed. Now take a mixture grinder jar. Put the washed mint leaves in it. Also, pour 2 to 3 tsp. water or as required for making the paste of mint leaves. Grind the mixture to make it a smooth or semi-smooth paste. Once you have made the fine mint leaves paste, keep it aside.

Note: You can use hand blender to whisk the curd. Keep the consistency of Curd a bit thick.

Preparation:

  • Now, take the bowl of the Curd from the fridge.
  • Mix in the grinded mint paste to this bowl of chilled whisked Curd.
  • Also, add all the mint paste juices which are left in the grinder.
  • Then sprinkle all the spice powders you are using to this bowl of Curd and Mint paste.
  • Add the ¼ tsp. of red chili powder, ½ tsp. of Chaat masala and the ¼ tsp. of roasted cumin powder.
  • Season the curd mixture with the salt in the required proportion.
  • Stir everything with the help of spoon and let the ingredients blends with each other.
  • Once you have mixed everything well, keep the bowl in refrigerate to cool for some time.

And the refreshing Mint Raita is ready to eat.

Note: If you are using onions, then sauté them or soak them in warm water to reduce their pungency.

She uses to add green chili instead of red chili, here I have added red chili powder just to give a nice texture to the dish. You can use according to your choice. The addition of spices and flavoring agents gives good flavors and aroma.

This is an alternate to a cool fresh chutney that gets prepared within seconds. You can use it to top over the various vegetable curries or as a dip to accompany with a complete meal.   • Substitute for milk curd is almond milk curd. If you want little sweet curd, then use almond yogurt.

  • If you are in hurry, then simply add the chopped mint leaves. You do not need to make the paste.
