Japanese Okonomiyaki Recipe

Essential Okonomiyaki Recipe Ingredients:

  • Flour – 1 cup (140 grams)
  • Baking Soda – ¼ tsp.
  • Vinegar – ¼ tsp.
  • Spinach, Kale/ Leaf Cabbage – 8 cups (large sized)
  • Sauce – Okonomi, Tonkatsu, Teriyaki –  ¼ tbsp each
  • Rice Milk/ Water – 1 bowl (small)
  • Salt and Pepper – ¼ tsp.

Note: Baking soda can be replaced with Eggs if you are an Eggetarian. The sauces can be home-made or found in Asian or International Grocery Stores.

Okonomiyaki Recipe Steps:

Pre-Preparation:

Prepare the batter by mixing baking soda with flour and rice milk. Then add Spinach with little sprinkling of salt and pepper.

Note: Stir the batter only in the required amount. Do not over mix, whisk well to combine ingredients properly.

Preparation:

  • In a sauce-pan, heat the oil over a low flame.
  • Spread the pan-cake batter evenly over the surface of warm sauce-pan.
  • Let the back surface of pan-cake cook properly, then flip over the other side and allow it to cook thoroughly. Turn over only when both the sides are golden brown.
  • Add topping of cheese or any other vegetable you prefer.

Serve with endless possibility of toppings, and pour your favorite sauce…

Note:You can also bake pancakes in a microwave.
