Cheese Paratha Recipe

Ingredients for Cheese Paratha Recipe:

Cheese Filling

  • Black Pepper Powder – 1 tsp.
  • Carom Seeds – a pinch
  • Chopped Green Coriander Leaves – ¼ cup
  • Finely Chopped Onions – ¼ cup
  • Green Chillies – 2 pieces of chillies
  • Shredded Cheese – 1 cup

Note: You can use cheddar cheese or plain cheese or processed cheese for this recipe. You can even mix the various types of cheddar cheese like white, mild or orange coloured.

The addition of green chillies and the chopped onions is optional. You can also use the boiled potatoes, tomatoes, shredded cabbage or boiled peas for the vegetable stuffing. You can make the paratha plainly of cheese filling without the use of any vegetable.

If you want the spicy paratha, then you can sprinkle ¼ tsp. of red chilli powder. You can also add the dry mango powder or masala powder in the filling. You may also mix the ½ tsp. of roasted cumin seeds.

The addition of 1 tsp. of ginger-garlic paste will make the paratha more flavorful. Few drops of lime juice will enhance the taste of filling.

Dough:

  • Oil / Ghee – 1 tsp.
  • Whole Wheat Flour – 2 cup
  • Salt – ¼
  • Water – as required

Note: Use the sieved wheat flour for making the dough. You can mix ½ tsp. of sugar if you want the minor sweetness as well.

Other:

  • Oil – 3 tbsp. (for frying or roasting paratha)
  • Whole wheat flour – ¼ cup (for dusting while rolling the paratha)

Note: You can fry the paratha in the butter too. Try making the recipe using Saffola Oil.

A method for Cheese Paratha Recipe:

Pre-Preparation:

  • Make the Dough: Transfer the sieved wheat flour in the large mixing bowl or in a large plate. Also, sprinkle approximately ¼ of salt in the bowl of flour. Add the 1 tsp. of oil (or ghee) and pour some water as required to make the dough as one mass. Mix the dry ingredients evenly with water so that the dough becomes soft. Check the seasoning, add salt it required. Gradually, add more water if required until the dough has become smooth. Cover the bowl of dough with damp cloth and keep it aside to rest for 15-20 minutes.
  • Prepare Cheese Filling: Now, again take another bowl and meantime the dough is resting, make the stuffing. Add the grated or the shredded cheese, black pepper powder, pinch of ajwain, green coriander leaves, chopped onions and green chillies. Mix all ingredients evenly with each other.

Note: If you are using the onions, then chop them very finely or else they will come out of the cheese stuffing. The addition of salt is optional because cheese already has salt in it.

Preparation:

  • When the dough is set, break into small sized equal portions. After you have divided the whole mass of dough, make small balls from the dough.
  • Take one of the balls in your hand, roll them by placing between your palms. Give the pressure and flatten the round small.
  • Now, dust some dry wheat flour over these flatten small sized circular paratha.
  • With the help of rolling board and the rolling pin, roll them into proper circular shaped paratha having the rounds of the same shape and size.
  • Then apply take the brush, dip in oil and apply in on the round shaped paratha.
  • Place the spoonful of the cheese mixture on the centre of the one of the side of this rolled paratha. Keep some space from the edges.
  • Bring the edges close to one another and seal the paratha from all the sides.
  • Apply a bit of oil and dust some flour.
  • Again, start to roll the paratha as before, keeping the edges of the same size. Keep rolling it till it becomes to the size of a normal paratha.
  • If you require, then sprinkle some wheat flour while you are rolling the paratha.
  • Meanwhile, you are rolling the paratha, start your gas flame and keep the skillet / non-stick pan or tava to heat on the low flame.
  • When the tava becomes hot enough, put the rolled paratha on the tava and change the flame to high.
  • Apply some oil or ghee and allow the paratha to cook, then turn the flame to medium. When tiny bubbles start to appear on one of the sides of the paratha, it means the base has been partially cooked. Spread some oil on the above side if you feel.
  • Then flip the paratha to other side and allow this side to cook more than the other. When the brown spots start forming, change the side of paratha.
  • When you flip the paratha to another side, again apply few drops of oil. Press the paratha with the help of a spatula.
  • Now cook the paratha properly until it has attained crispy texture and has become golden brown in colour.
  • Transfer, the paratha from the tava to the plate and serve hot.
  • Repeat the same process with the remaining balls.

And the tasty yummy cheese paratha is ready for taking the cheesy bite.

Note: If you cook your paratha on a lower flame, then it will take the longer time to cook and will become hard. You would not enjoy if your parathas are hardened, they taste best when soft.

If you have a leftover dough you can very quickly make these parathas. Parathas are of various types, these cheese parathas have the twist of cheese in them compared to the traditional plain paratha. Here I have added spices in the grated cheese and stuffed this mixture in the dough. You can adjust the proportion of spices and make it as you prefer to eat. If you want spicy, add more spice powders and if you want mild, then sprinkle less proportion of spice powders.  It is similar to eating the bread from the dough of whole wheat flour with the stuffing of cheese alone or a mix of cheese and vegetable. Most of the ingredients are common and are easily available at home. It needs three basic steps to prepare, first is to roll them, and second is to stuff them with cheese filling and lastly shallow fry the paratha. The taste of paratha blends beautifully with the flavours of cheese.

Making this cheese paratha does not require much more of skills, thus it’s an easy recipe and even the beginners can attempt it. This extremely tasty and delicious paratha can be a bit consuming if you do not get the correct consistency of the dough. Be careful with the required thickness of the dough, add the water in correct proportion to combine properly with flour. Though tricky, these yummy paratha’s with the cheese stuffing are definitely worth the try! So just follow the steps, make these yummy cheese paratha’s in your kitchen and enjoy the delicious cheesy bites.

Remarks:

  • Total time of cooking for the Cheese Paratha Recipe is 25 minutes.
  • The measured proportion of ingredients makes 4 paratha’s which serves 4 people. If you want to make for more people, then increase the proportion of each ingredient.
  • You can use the cheese stuffing inside any type of paratha dough.
  • If you are making it for kids then avoid adding the green chillies or sprinkle of red chilli powder. Also, cut the paratha in a triangle shape and apply melted cheese over paratha, this will attract them.
  • Instead of oil, ghee or butter can be used to grease the paratha.
  • For the Jain Version of Cheese Paratha, skip adding onion and ginger-garlic paste.
  • The vegetable which you can add can be carrot, cauliflower, capsicum, or spring onions.

Garnish:

You may serve hot this delicious cheese paratha with the tomato ketchup, pickle or any chutney as well with the Punjabi sabzi like paneer butter masala.

Quick Tip:
  • You can sprinkle some Chaat masala over the cheese paratha.
  • Apply the melted butter and eat alone.

You can even make the Pizza Cheese Paratha with the same method and the similar ingredients. For the dough, in addition to oil, water and salt, you would need the Maida instead of wheat flour. You will also require adding ½ tsp. yeast so that dough raises its volume and becomes fluffy. For the pizza stuffing, you can use all the vegetables along with tomato paste (or tomato ketchup), chilli flakes, peppers like bell pepper and jalapenos and mozzarella cheese.

The method of preparation remains exact as you made the cheese paratha. Firstly prepare the dough and let it rest for about an hour. Chop the veggies and mix all the dry ingredients to prepare the pizza filling. Then, knead the dough, make small balls, roll them to paratha shape, place the stuffing of pizza and then keep on a skillet for roasting.

The parathas are always served hot right from the tava. These parathas are not an ideal option for tiffin because the cheese becomes dense and the paratha becomes hard to chew once they become cold. Thus it’s better to serve these paratha’s immediately as they are cooked. But, they are the perfect snack or meal choice to offer when your kids return from school.

If you make this paratha for a party, then pair them with any spicy vegetable curry. You may serve the tasty soup in appetiser and healthy salad as an accompaniment along with yummy and cheesy paratha of cheese stuffing to give your guest the experience of a complete meal. You can personalise the topping of the paratha and also place a small bowl of salsa sauce on one side of a plate.
