Dahi Aloo Recipe : Delectable Dish of Potato and Curd!

Can you just image our food without potatoes? Of course no! Potatoes are present everywhere in Indian culinary. Potato is something which we eat mostly on daily basis. It is combined with almost everything. It can be combined with any other veggies. The Dahi Aloo Recipe is one such combination of potato with the fresh curd.

Dahi Aloo Recipe

Ingredients for Dahi Aloo Recipe:

  • Boiled potatoes – 3 cup
  • Curd fresh – 1 cup
  • Bengal gram flour/ besan – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds/ rai – ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds/ jeera – 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds/ sauf – 1 tsp
  • Nigella seeds/ kalaunji – ½ tsp ( optional )
  • Bay leaf/ tej patta – 1 leaf
  • Cinnamon/ dalchini – 1 piece
  • Cloves/ laung – 2 pieces
  • Asefoetida/ hing a pinch of
  • Red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder/ haldi – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander powder/ dhania powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil/ ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Green coriander leaves.

Note: To make this dish during a fast use rock salt instead of normal salt and avoid using turmeric powder. You can also use green chili instead of red chili powder. You can plus or minus the ingredients to make it a vart recipe.

Method for Dahi Aloo Recipe:

Pre- preparation:

  • Boil potatoes.
  • Peel the potatoes and cut in small cubes.

Preparation of Dahi Aloo:

  • Take a bowl. Add curd and besan in it. Whisk until no lumps are left. Keep it aside.
  • Heat oil or ghee in a wok/ kadhai.
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves and asefoetida. Saute them for few seconds.
  • If you are using kalaunji add this also.
  • Add curd and besan mixture and ¼ cup water. Mix well. Keep stirring until it comes to a boil.
  • Now add red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder. Mix well. Cook for 2 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  • Now add the potatoes.
  • Add salt to taste. Mix well. Coom for 2-3 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  • Switch off the stove.
  • Dahi aloo is ready.

  • Serves 4 people.
  • While adding curd and besan mixture stirr continuing to avoid curdling.
  • Fresh curd is to be used otherwise if you use sour curd the Tate will be spoiled completely.
  • Garlic can also be added.
