Pan Fried Tofu Recipe

Ingredients for Fried Tofu with Peanut Sauce:

For the preparation of tofu, you would need peanut sauce as the main ingredient. All the elements required to make the peanut sauce are easily available. Even the ingredients required for the whole pan fried tofu process are common in our day-to-day use.

For Peanut Sauce:

  • Peanut Butter – 3 tbsp.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – 1 tbsp.
  • Soy Sauce – ¼ tsp.
  • Red Chilli powder – ½ tsp.
  • Organic Cane Sugar – 1 tbsp.
  • Salt – as per taste

Note: You can also use 1 tbsp. of rice vinegar or any regular vinegar instead of Apple Cider Vinegar. If you have red chilli flakes, then add them as an alternative to the red chilli powder.

The organic can sugar used should be dependent on the sweetness of the peanut sauce. You can vary it from ½ to 1 tbsp.

For Pan Fried Tofu:

  • Tofu – 250 grams
  • Corn Flour (Corn-Starch) – 3 tbsp.
  • Maida (All-Purpose Flour) – 3 tbsp.
  • Baking Powder – ¼ tsp.
  • Soy Sauce – ½ tsp.
  • Red Chilli Powder – ½ tsp.
  • Kali Mirch Powder (Black Pepper Powder) – ½ tsp.
  • Oil – 3 tbsp.
  • Water – ½ cup
  • Salt – As per taste

Note: Use the extra firm plain tofu. You may also add ½ tsp. of red chilli flakes instead of red chilli powder. Olive oil or any other frying oil can be used. Keep the proportion of oil from 2 to 3 tbsp. Use Saffola oil for cooking.

Steps for Fried Tofu with Peanut Sauce:

The preparation of pan fried tofu with peanut sauce is very easy. The entire process is divided into two main parts. Firstly, you have to prepare the peanut sauce and then make the batter for coating tofu. Lastly, dip the tofu in the batter and crispy fry. Follow the recipe and make the tofu.

For Peanut Sauce:

  • Take a non-stick frying pan and add vinegar, salt and sugar in it.
  • Turn on the flame and boil the mixture.
  • Simmer for 2 minutes. Bring everything to boil.
  • Turn off the flame and remove the pan from the stove.
  • Let the mixture to cool down. Wait for some time.
  • As it cools down, add peanut butter, chilli powder and soy sauce to the pan.
  • Stir properly so that every ingredient gets mixed up well.
  • Now, transfer this peanut sauce to a bowl.
  • Keep this bowl aside and move to further steps.

Note: If you are using red chilli flakes, then add them along with the peanut butter and soy sauce.

For Pan Fried Tofu:

  • Gently clean the tofu. Wash it and then gently press between the kitchen towels.
  • Cut the plain tofu into small cubes.
  • Take a large mixing bowl.
  • Add Maida and Corn flour along with the Baking powder in the bowl.
  • Sprinkle the red chilli powder and kali Mirch powder in the dry mixture.
  • Drizzle the soy sauce and pour water in the required amount.
  • Mix everything well and make a smooth batter.
  • Take frying pan and heat 3 tbsp. of oil in it.
  • Dip the evenly cut tofu in the smooth batter.
  • Place the dipped tofu one-by-one in the frying pan.
  • Fry one side of the tofu first.
  • As one side of the tofu is properly fried, turn them and cook the other side of the pieces.
  • Fry all the sides until the outer turns light golden colour.
  • Transfer the fried tofu into the plate and serve them Hot with peanut sauce.

Note: Try to cut the pieces of the plain tofu evenly. Uneven pieces won’t look nice when serving. You may flip the tofu with the help of tongs. Fry the tofu with the turner or skimmer.
