Aloo Pakora Recipe : Crispy Potato Fritters!

Whenever we have guests at home suddenly, my mother-in-law always make this Aloo pakora for them. The Aloo pakora recipe is very easy and less time consuming. Once again potatoes are something always available at home. Again gram flour is also available at home. So this makes quick and crispy pakoras are made every time!

Aloo Pakora Recipe

Ingredients for Aloo Pakora Recipe:

  • Potato – 1 piece ( medium size )
  • Gram flour/ besan – 1 cup
  • Rice flour – 2 tbsp
  • Carom seeds/ ajwain – ½ tsp
  • Red chili powder – ¼ tsp
  • Asafoetida a pinch of.
  • Water – ⅔-¾ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of baking soda ( optional )

Method for Aloo Pakora Recipe:

  • Take a bowl and add gram flour, rice flour, carom seeds, red chili powder, salt, asafoetida, baking soda ( optional ).
  • Add ⅔ to ¾ cup of water. The consistency of the batter has to be medium.
  • Slice the potato in round shape with the help of a knife. You can use a mandolin slicer also. Just keep in mind that the slices are not too thin.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai. The oil has to be not so hot or cold. Before frying the pakoras put a drop of batter in the oil. If it comes up fast then the oil is too hot and if it comes up very slowly it means oil is not hot. It should come steadily. (use saffola oil)
  • Now add the potato slice in the batter. Take out and put it into the oil. Repeat the same process with all the slices.
  • Fry until golden brown on both the sides.
  • Drain the pakoras on the kitchen napkin.
  • Aloo pakora is ready to eat.

Pakoras are always fun to have especially with tea. If it rains then the combo becomes marvelous. Actually, pakoras are a delight to have during monsoon and winter. Aloo pakoras are served with green chutney, tamarind chutney, tomato sauce. Some people have it with bread.

  • Serves 3-4 people
  • Keep a water-filled bowl on your work table so that you can wash your immediately to avoid things getting messy.
