Apple Halwa Recipe

Apple Halwa Recipe Ingredients:

  • Apples – 2 ½ cup (6 to 7 apples)
  • Condensed Milk – 1 cup
  • Cloves – 1 small piece
  • Khoya – ¼ cup (crumbled)
  • Cardamom Powder – 1 tsp.
  • Vanilla Powder – 1 tsp.
  • Cinnamon Powder – ½ tsp.
  • Orange Food Essence – a pinch
  • Pistachios – ¼ cup
  • Walnuts – ¼ cup
  • Almonds – ¼ cup (buy it from here)
  • Dates – ¼ cup
  • Raisins – ¼ cup
  • Sugar – 5 tbsp.
  • Butter – 1 tbsp.
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp.
  • Warm Water – 1 tbsp.

Note: It is preferable to use granulated sugar, and not the sugar cubes.  You may also use either of ghee or butter. Oil can be substituted in place of butter.

Apple Halwa Recipe Steps:

Pre-Preparation:

  • Cut the Apples:
    • Take approximately 7 fresh and ripe apples.
    • Wash each of them properly under the fresh water tap.
    • Rinse and clean the apples.
    • Peel off their skin and keep them.
    • Now take the knife and still it throughout the apple to the core.
    • This will give you to two equal halves of an Apple.
    • Now insert the knife inside and remove the core.
    • Now, slice and chop the apples into small cubes.
  • Finely grate 1 or 2 pieces of apple.
  • Blanch and peel the nuts you have. Chop into pieces.

Note:  Do not still the knife through the core. We peel off the skin of the apples because they might be wax coated. Once you remove the apple skin layer there is no concern and consume apples safely.

Preparation:

  • Take a non-stick saucepan and melt the ghee over a medium flame.
  • Once the ghee is melted, add the chopped apples. Sauté the apple cubes till they are complete cooked and the raw smell vanishes.
  • Fry the apples for nearly 5 minutes till they become golden.
  • Once they have become soft, add the warm water into the pan.
  • Uncover the pan and let the apples merge with each other.
  • With help of spoon, mash the apples and keep stirring.
  • While you cook the mixture, take care that it does not burn.
  • Now add sugar and again continuously keep stirring well.
  • Add milk after 5 minutes and stir the mixture continuously for another 5 minutes.
  • Now mix in the grated apples.
  • Reduce the milk over the low flame and let the apple milk mixture become tender and soft.
  • Wait till the mixture becomes one and pulls away from the bottom.
  • Shift the knob of gas from medium to high, raising the flame.
  • At this point, add the orange food color essence and mix well into the mixture so that Halwa gets it original color.
  • Now sprinkle the cinnamon powder, cardamom powder and vanilla powder over the mixture and stir.
  • Add khoya to this mixture and whisk well. Keeping stirring the runny mixture so that it does not get stuck to the pan.
  • Add ghee in the increase of 1/3 tbsp.
  • When you feel the mixture has turned sticky, add cardamom powder. Simmer until the milk evaporates.
  • When you feel the mixture has become translucent then take it away from the flame.
  • Season the mixture with the chopped almonds, pistachios, dates, raisins, and walnuts.
  • Again transfer it over to the gas and cook for a couple of minutes.
  • Transfer the Halwa on the plate, spread it evenly.
  • Cut into the thick small cubes

Note: For the creamier Halwa, add more milk.
