Beetroot Halwa Recipe

Beetroot Halwa Recipe Ingredients:

  • Beetroot – 2 cups
  • Fresh Milk – 2 cups
  • Condensed Milk – 1 cup
  • Cloves – 4 pieces
  • Khoya – 100 grams (crumbled)
  • Cardamom Powder – ¼ tsp.
  • Vanilla Powder – ½ tsp.
  • Cinnamon Powder – ½ tsp.
  • Cashew – ¼ cup
  • Raisins –  ¼ cup
  • Sugar – ¾ cup
  • Ghee – ¼ cup

Note: Adjust the amount of sugar as needed. Use less if you are using condensed milk because it is already sweet.

There is an addition of the ghee in this recipe because it give strong aroma and the touch of traditional flavors. If you are calorie conscious person, then you can skip adding ghee in preparation of beetroot Halwa. But, if you are using ghee, I would recommend you to use Patanjali’s cow ghee.

Beetroot Halwa Recipe Steps:

Pre-Preparation:

  1. Cut the Beetroot:
  • Take approximately 500 grams of fresh beetroots.
  • Wash each of them properly under the fresh water tap.
  • Rinse and clean the beetroots.
  • Peel off their skin and keep them.
  • Now take the knife and still it throughout each.
  • This will give you to beetroot in two equal halves.
  • Now slit chop the beetroots.
  1. Finely grate those pieces of beetroots
  2. Blanch and peel the nuts you have. Chop into pieces.

Note: You can also roast the nuts before using them.

Preparation:

  • In the thick bottomed pan, add the milk to the boil.
  • When the milk has heated, mix the grated beetroot.
  • Cook the mixture on a low flame and bring it to a boil.
  • Simmer the mixture continuously for few minutes.
  • Stir at regular intervals and wait will it comes to a boil.
  • Keep on simmering and wait till it gets cooked.
  • Let the grated beetroots cook in the fresh milk.
  • The milk will be reduced, it would be absorbed or evaporated.
  • When the milk can consistently reduce, add the ghee.
  • Sprinkle the sugar over the Halwa mixture.
  • Again stir well and simmer the whole beetroot mixture.
  • Now add the chopped cashews, raisins, cardamom powder, and simmer.
  • At this time for some sweetness, add the condensed milk and again stir well.
  • Wait till the milk has been evaporated.
  • Transfer the Halwa on the plate, spread it evenly.
  • Cut into the thick small cubes

Note: Always cook the grated beetroots with the milk. Also, make sure that the grated beetroot has been cooked evenly and there is very little proportion of water left in them before you add the sugar.
