Phirni Recipe

Ingredients Required for Phirni Recipe:

  • Sweetened Condensed Milk – 2 cups
  • Milk – 500ml
  • Rice – 100gm
  • Elaichi (Cardamom) powder – 1tsp
  • Rose water – 1 tsp.
  • Few Rose Petals
  • Sugar – pinch

Note: You may substitute Jaggery in place of sugar. You can use any regular rice but it results best with basmati rice.

Method for Making Phirni Recipe:

  • Take the rice and wash them properly.
  • Soak these rice for about 1 hour.
  • After 1 hour, drain all the water and grind the rice to make a fine paste.
  • Now take a pan and pour milk into it and start heating it.
  • Add the paste to the pan and stir it continuously in order to avoid the mixture to stick to the bottom of the pan
  • Cook it for about 7 minutes until it boils.
  • Now add Condensed milk to the pan.
  • Now mix sugar and merge well.
  • Turn off the flame and add rose water to the pan.
  • Sprinkle Elaichi powder over it.
  • Cool it in the refrigerator.
  • Serve it Cool

Note: If you are using Jaggery, then add only when Phirni has become thick.

The creamy texture of this lovely dessert is similar to kheer but the flavors and taste vary drastically. Another difference is the core ingredient which is grounded rice in the case of Phirni. The taste is creamy with a thick consistency and a shining texture. It basically has two basic components in its making. First one is rice which is the base and the other one is milk. It’s nothing less than the having the experience of creamy and grainy in one single dessert dish.

Though the other ingredients are the side hero but they contribute equally in enhancing the flavors and achieving the required texture of the Phirni. The aroma of the cardamom powder spreads strongly within the whole Phirni. And the sprinkle of rose petal gives the pink color with the flavor of rose. You can be flexible with the proportion of sugar as the condensed milk is already sweet. Lastly, you can season with your favorite nuts which give crunch to the dessert and also tempts everyone around with the nutty aroma.

Remarks:

  • You can use Nestle Milkmaid as Condensed milk
  • Skip adding Elaichi if you don’t like it.
  • Do not completely freeze it. Serve it with a cold thick paste.

Garnishing:

  • Sprinkle the Rose petals over it.
  • Garnish it with sliced almonds too.
  • Serve it in Glass with the ice-cream scoop.
