Dabeli Recipe Ingredients:

  • Potatoes – 2 cups
  • Onions – 2 cups
  • Burger Buns – 1 pack
  • Mint Chutney – ½ cup
  • Sweet Chutney – ½ cup
  • Garlic Chutney – ½ cup
  • Roasted Peanuts – ½ cup
  • Chopped Cilantro – ½ cup
  • Pomegranate Seeds – 1 cup
  • Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp.
  • Fennel Seeds – ½ cup
  • Black Pepper – ¼ cup
  • Coriander Seeds – ½ tsp.
  • Garlic Cloves – 3 to 4 pieces
  • Dry Red Chillies – ½ cup
  • Mace Powder – ¼ cup
  • Nutmeg Powder – ¼ cup
  • Whole Star Anise – 1 cup
  • Bay Leaves – 2 cups
  • Black Cardamom – 1 cup
  • Green Cardamom – 4 cups
  • Ginger Powder – ½ cup
  • Nylon Sev – 1 cup
  • Butter – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 1 tsp.
  • Lime Juice – ½ tbsp.
  • Salt – as per taste

Note: The buns can be made at home or are available in the market. You can skip potato and use the banana for the Jain version of Dabeli. It would taste best if you make fresh garlic chutney at home.

Dabeli Recipe Steps:

It is very easy and simple to make the Dabeli at home. Prepare the various chutney’s needed and the potato mixture. Then toast the bun and stuff the mixture. Drizzle these chutney’s and top the Dabeli with other ingredients.


Prepare the Dabeli Masala:

  • Take the mixture into the blender and grind at the medium pace until the smooth powder is formed. (buy blender online)
  • The powder spices do not require roasting, so simply add into the mixture and stir well.
  • Dry roast one by one all the ingredients such as 1 piece of dry red chilli, 1 tsp of coriander seeds, 1/2 inch of cinnamon stick, 4 garlic cloves and 1/2 tsp cumin seeds until they release the aromatic fragrance.

Prepare the Filling:

  • Take prestige pressure cooker and boil the water.
  • When the water has reached its boiling point, add the potatoes and boil them.
  • Peel their skin and mast them. Keep the mashed potatoes aside in a bowl.
  • Take a non-stick pan and heat the oil over a medium flame. Sauté the onions till they become light brown.
  • When onions are cooked, add the Dabeli masala and stir well to evenly mix the seasoning.
  • Also, add sugar for taste and let it cook.
  • Transfer the mashed potatoes from bowl to the pan.
  • Mix the ingredients properly, sprinkle salt and squeeze lime juice.
  • Cover the pan and let the mixture cook.
  • Turn off the flame, take the mixture in a large bowl. Or you can also spread it over a large plate evenly.

Note: Dabeli Masala is also available in the market. You may also use spring onions in the mixture. Use Saffola oil for cooking.

Assemble the Dabeli:

  • Over the mixture of mashed potatoes, sprinkle the onions and the pomegranate seeds. Also evenly season the mixture with roasted peanuts, cilantro leaves, and the Sev.
  • Melt the butter in a hot non-stick pan, and cook until golden brown on both the sides. Cut the bun from the middle into two equal halves and apply butter before keeping over the pan.
  • When the buns are golden brown, take off from the pan and keep on a plate.
  • Apply the mint chutney on one side of bun and garlic chutney on another side of the bun. Apply the little bit of sweet chutney on both the sides of the bun.
  • Take the small amount of potato filling from the plate, make round ball and pat from the palm. Spread it between the two buns.
  • Again sprinkle some pomegranate seeds, Sev, and onion over the bun.

And your delicious Dabeli is ready to eat. Serve plain or smeared with butter immediately!

Note: You can use tamarind date chutney for the sweet seasoning. You can also make a wrap or open sandwich.

  • Add Asafoetida and stir.
  • Remove the skin of Peanuts.
  • Mix them in the pan.
  • Saute till brown.
  • Sprinkle red chilli powder.
  • Add Turmeric Powder.
  • Season mixture with salt.

  • Mix everything well.

How to make Chilli Garlic Chutney?

It is easy to make the chilli garlic chutney at home. You can prepare either plain red chilli chutney or plain garlic chutney. But the combination of both chilli and garlic makes a fabulous chutney. To prepare the chilli garlic chutney, follow steps:

  • Soak red chillies in water for half hour.
  • Add to blender along with garlic.
  • Drizzle lemon juice.
  • Season with the salt as per the taste.
  • Grind them to a smooth paste.
  • Add the little water.

How to make refreshing Mint Chutney at home?

It is very simple and quick to make the refreshing chutney from the fresh herbs. To prepare the Mint Chutney at home, you would need 1 bunch of fresh cilantro. You would require 1 cup of fresh mint leaves. Also, onions, lime juice and chilli pepper would be needed. Add salt, black pepper and water as required. Follow the below steps to make the mint chutney:
