Jeera Rice Recipe Ingredients:

  • Basmati Rice – 1 ½ cup
  • Cumin Seeds – 2 tsp.
  • Ghee / Clarified Butter – 1 ½ tbsp.
  • Vegetable Oil – 2 tbsp. (use saffola oil)
  • Cloves – 2 cloves
  • Cinnamon Stick – ½ cup
  • Cardamom – ½  inch
  • Bay Leaves – 1 piece
  • Cilantro – 1 tbsp.
  • Red Chili – 1 piece
  • Water – 5 cups
  • Salt – as per taste

Note: You can also use red chili powder instead of whole red chili. Green chilies are also a great replacement for taste.

Jeera Rice Recipe Steps:

This delicious Jeera rice is extremely simple to prepare and yet a very flavorful rice. It can be easily cooked in a few minutes.


  • Wash the basmati rice gently under the fresh tap water thoroughly.
  • In a bowl of lukewarm water, soak the basmati rice for sometime.
  • Deseed the red chili and thin slice.
  • Crush the cardamoms.
  • Finely chop the cilantro leaves.

Note: Drain the water and discard the dirt before using rice.

Preparing Jeera Rice:

  • In a saucepan, sauté the cumin seeds over the heated oil till they crackle.
  • Add the ghee, cloves and the cinnamon stick.
  • Wait till the tempering crackles.
  • Also, add the remaining spices like red chili and bay leaves.
  • Stir everything in the pan for a while.
  • Once the tempering is ready, transfer it to the bowl of soaked rice in water.
  • Now take the bowl or pot over the medium flame and cook the rice.
  • Put the lid over the rice pan and allow it to cook for 20 minutes
  • Turn off the flame when water has evaporated and rice has become tender.

Note: After sometime check the pot, if the rice has become soft and fluffy, it means it’s ready to eat. Take out in a dish and serve.

How to Fry the Onions in the Healthy Way?

  • Wash the onions, remove the skin and cut the upper and lower end
  • Lengthwise, slice onion thinly (Cut the onions in the circular rings).
