The reason why I like this festival is because of the atmosphere in the city due to Ganpati Pandals. There is a lot of bustling in the city due to constant rush of people to visit different Pandals. The Chocolate Modak Recipe compliments this festival with its rich flavors, delicate taste, and elegant aroma. The combination of chocolate with the royal flavored Mawa gives the delicious, deep and long-lasting treat to our taste buds.

Chocolate Modak Recipe

Ingredients for Chocolate Modak Recipe:

  • Grated Mawa/ khoya – 1 cup
  • Chocolate chips – ⅓ cup
  • Sugar as required
  • Green cardamom powder – a pinch of
  • Oil/ ghee for greasing the Modak mold
  • Chopped dry fruits for garnishing.

Note: You will require a Modak mold for giving your Modak’s a perfect shape and texture. It is preferable to use the small-sized molds. If you do not have mold, then you can give them the shape of Ladoo. If you want the creamier texture, you can use the condensed milk as well. If it is not available, then you may substitute it with the Almond Milk. On the other hand, for the crispy texture, you can coat the Ladoo with the breadcrumbs. If you are using ghee, use patanjali cow ghee. If you are using oil, use saffola oil.

Method for Chocolate Modak Recipe:

  • Take a pan. Add grated Mawa in it. Switch on the stove and keep the flame low.
  • Start stirring the Mawa on low flame until it starts melting.
  • It will start to melt after a minute or two.
  • When Mawa gets melted add sugar in the Mawa mixture. Add sugar as per your taste.
  • Mix properly and keep on stirring continuously for 1 minute.
  • Now add the chocolate chips in the Mawa mixture. Stir well.
  • Keep on stirring. The chocolate chips will start melting.
  • Keep on stirring on low flame.
  • Now the mixture will start getting thick.
  • Add green cardamom powder and mix properly.
  • Heat the mixture on low flame while stirring constantly until it starts to leave the sides of the pan.
  • Once it is done take it out in a bowl or thali. Do not over cook otherwise the modak will become dense.
  • Let the mixture cool.
  • When the mixture is warm make small balls of it.
  • Grease a modak mold with ghee or oil.
  • Now put the small balls of the chocolate mawa mixture in the mold.
  • Put the ball in the mold from the open side of the mold. Gently push the ball with your index finger.
  • Slowly unmould and repeat the same process with the remaining balls.
  • Chocolate modak are ready to eat.

And the delicious and sweet Chocolate Modak are ready! You can serve them instantly but it would taste better if they are served chilled.

Note: Keep the flame low during the whole process.

I had chocolate at home and even Mawa was also available, so thought of making a sweet dish which combines our favorite ingredients together. Be very cautious and careful while you make as to balance the calories in this Modak is a crucial task.

Thus today I will discuss how to make Modak that too chocolate Modak. The recipe is same as Mawa Modak. Nowadays the level of cooking has raised. People like to twist and variations in the recipe. Here also a twist is made in the traditional Mawa Modak by an addition of chocolate. Chocolate is admired by all age of people whether young or old. I know many people who don’t like sweets but they eat them if chocolate is added in it.

Chocolate Modak is made up of three basic ingredients Mawa, chocolate, and sugar. The Mawa used here is of unsweetened type. I have used homemade Mawa. It’s easy to make Mawa at home. I will soon share this recipe also. The best part of this recipe is that it not require preparation the coating and the stuffing individually. You only have to make the mixture and then let it settle in the mold. So, even those who are new to cooking and does not have much of cooking expertise can also try them at home.

If you have a fascination for chocolate then this is a must try dessert for you! Again the type of chocolate used can be grated or chocolate chips. You can also use milk chocolate. The type of chocolate depends on your choice. But I would suggest you chop the chocolate and then use it. To make the Modak aromatic I have added green cardamom powder. You can also add vanilla extract for the extra flavors and cinnamon powder for the alluring aroma. You can also add chocolate chips if you like crunchy texture. Remarks:

  • Total time for cooking of Chocolate Modak Recipe is 22 minutes
  • The mentioned gauge of ingredients makes 6 Modak. But if you like you can increase the number of serving and adjust the proportion of ingredients.
  • Keep the flame low otherwise, the Mawa will not be roasted properly.
  • You can also use brown sugar instead of regular sugar.
  • You can also add chocolate chips and nuts if you like crunchy texture.
  • Add the chips and nuts just before switching off the stove.
  • If you want, you can skip the addition of nuts. Nuts are used only for the flavors, they do not affect the consistency of the mixture.
  • The type of chocolate depends on your choice.
